Popular music history - so what?

More work in progress from my radio programme about the historiography of popular music.
In this clip Tony Higgins (BBC producer - Seven Ages of Rock/Jazz Britannia) CP Lee (Academic - University of Salford) and Andy Linehan (Curator of popular music at the British Library) share initial thoughts on why popular music history is important.

I live in Birmingham UK where I am a popular music researcher in the Interactive Cultures team at Birmingham City University. I am interested in popular music heritage and work on the Home of Metal project preparing a major exhibition at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery in Summer 2011. I also manage an amazing band called Einstellung, enjoy spending time at my allotment and messing around with radio documentaries.
